Yes, it was a big deal back then to have two major actors portraying gay lovers. There was a big curiosity factor, just to see if they could pull it off. What audiences got was a damn good movie as well. Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhall definitely pulled it off in one of the saddest love stories ever filmed. Poor Michelle Williams brings her heart and talent into the mix as well.
